The 7th Annual 2008 Memorial Golf Tournament

The 7th Annual 2008 Memorial Golf Tournament turned out to be one of the best ever, with support from our sponsors, great prizes and lots of hard work. The weather was on our side, giving us flawless sunshine without a cloud in the sky.

The 6th Annual 2007 Memorial Golf Tournament

The 2007 6th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was a tremendous success. The tournament sold out. The University Golf Course was in great shape, the food was delicious, the prizes generous and reverse draw lots of fun.

We owe a big thanks to our volunteers who did an amazing job of putting it all together. The 2007 Memorial Tourney wouldn't have been nearly as fun or successful without them.

Thanks to the generosity of the sponsors and golfers over $20,500 was raised. Funds were distributed to:

• Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
• Canadian Cancer Society
• BC Cancer Foundation
• Canadian Blood Services
• Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada
• Vancouver Community College
• The University of British Columbia.

Scholarships were awarded to two university students who both have a parent employed by tournament sponsors.

This year, our 7th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at The University Golf Club (the way to UBC at 5185 University Blvd in Vancouver) on Thursday, August 14th, 2008.

The purpose of the Memorial Golf Tournament is to remember friends and loved ones who died far too young, to see friends and business associates, to meet new people, raise money for good causes and have a great afternoon of golf followed by dinner, prizes and fun.

This annual tournament brings together a number of Vancouver’s most influential investment advisors, corporate finance professionals and mutual fund wholesalers for a relaxed and enjoyable round of golf.

The Memorial began informally in 2002 to commemorate the loss of a colleague, Jim Stubbs, who passed away in 1999. Over the succeeding years, the tournament has brought together a wider circle of friends and family from the Vancouver investment community who wish to commemorate the memories of Jim and others connected to our group who have since passed away:

• AJ Bay, son of Canaccord broker Warwick Bay
• Christina Huckvale, daughter of CIBC Wood Gundy broker Cus Huckvale
• Pam Turk, Branch Administrator at ScotiaMcLeod in Vancouver, wife of John Newell of Jennings Capital Inc.

The Memorial has become a very special event. It not only honors these people who are no longer with us, but also has become a favorite golf tournament for many of us who enjoy reconnecting with old friends in the investment community and making new friendships. A number of mutual funds, investment dealers, public companies and other capital market participants have generously supported this effort in past years, and continue to support this tradition today.
